1921- Twenty six counties of Ireland are given dominion status by the British, creating the Irish Free State, while six counties in the north remain under British control.
1921-1923- Civil war in Ireland between the Irish Free State forces and the Irish Republican Army forces who did not go along with the partition of Ireland and Ireland's �dominion� status. The Republican forces wanted to continue the fight for a free, united Ireland.
